Puppy Face

Yes this is my puppy face. I am using it on you all right now because I’m handing in all my monies on Saturday morning and I could really use a bit of help on the donations front. For those of you who don’t know, it’s for World Horse Welfare (not just for me) and I’d really like to reach 300 pounds which could pay for all of their work after my 100 book challenge this year. If you’re unsure, look at the pug’s face. It’ll help you decide. JustGive.

Just so you know….I haven’t died….

Hello Hello my lovely readers! Happy New Year!

Yes, I can see you looking at me in that judgemental fashion, raising your eyebrows. I can almost hear the offended tone of ‘Where HAVE you been’. I apologise. Unfortunately, the final year of university is something akin to being tortured with a phenomenal lack of sleep and the creeping fear that the work may, in fact, never end and thus, no time for blogging. However, I am back (cough…to ask for your money) because I have genuinely missed blogging but also…because….I HAVE FINISHED MY CHALLENGE!! woo! Yes, I have finished 100 books. I kind of feel like I’ve been on a mental marathon, and there were times I was fairly certain I wouldn’t manage to finish but I have!

I shall be writing a few blog posts on varying aspects of finishing the challenge but would like to take this opportunity to ask…welll…for your money. It’s not for me! As those of you who have been following for a while know, I started my blog and my challenge hoping to raise money for the charity World Horse Welfare (info all over my blog). So far I’ve raised 251 pounds, but I would greatly appreciate it if you would contribute anything on my justgiving page. Horse welfare might not be high on your priority list but here are some reasons its high on mine:

1. Horses are still needed to support people’s livelihoods in many countries. Unfortunately many of these people do not know a great deal about proper horse care and this leads not only to bad conditions for the horses but ultimately, to a much less capable working animal for the person. World Horse Welfare supports these communities and animals in their work.

2. The lack of high profile is precisely why I wanted to raise money for World Horse Welfare in the first place. Horses are often associated with the very wealthy and it is assumed that horses are usually animals that benefit from this wealth. However, this is not always so, as there are many cases of serious mistreatment of horses within the UK. Dogs and cats that end up on the streets are quickly picked up and cared for. A horse in a lonely field that very few pass will often go unnoticed for a very long time, and this is why we need World Horse Welfare.

3. They’re cute! Cummon!

I would also like to thank those of you who have commented and not stopped following despite a 6 month long absence and those who have joined more recently!

With a big hug for you all!

Just to remind you….

Hello my readers. Before I move away from the land of blogging to ensure a lack of failure in finals, I just want to remind all you people, in particularly my 58 followers (58 followers- isn’t that awesome) that my blog is actually not just for fun, I’m actually doing it for the charity World Horse Welfare. World Horse Welfare is a great UK charity that takes care of abused horses in the UK and abroad helping not only these furry creatures but also educating people who aren’t able to take care of them. So even if you just donate £1 it could make the world of difference for the people at WHW and I would be hugely grateful if you could donate. Thank you!

The end of the challenge…

It’s only taken me to literally till the last day of March to finish my 30 day challenge as I got distracted by numerous picture posts and other such things which I ended up posting instead- oops! Anyways, I hope you’ve enjoyed it, and as I’ve left you hanging on the books I’ve actually been reading for my challenge, the next few days will be dedicated to the books I’ve been reading whilst babbling about books from my past! The Challenge is going well, and you can view my progress on the Goodreads widgets on the side. Something about giving up television suddenly frees up one’s reading schedule. Thanks again to wantoncreation for giving me the idea for the challenge, and don’t forget to donate for World Horse Welfare.

Don’t be a victim of rogues…

Some sad stories and good advice from World Horse Welfare this week- be careful whom you sell/loan your horse to! WHW have had reports of people selling/loaning their horses only to find out that they have been put to slaughter. One of these cases is that of Jemma, who gave her beloved horse to a trader with the promise of continued contact if rehoming was a possibility. Jemma later found out that her horse had been slaughtered. Police will not prosecute and but it is because of cruelty like this that WHW welfare exists- to be a body that can push for new legislation, and can support horses and horse owners everywhere. Please donate to support their amazing work. For the full article.

Fly fringes

£8,134.86 have been raised for the fly fringe appeal in Honduras! This appeal was launched in March last year when WHW visitors in Honduras realized that the working horses there are constantly plagued by biting flies causing open sore wounds around their eyes. Fly fringes are a simple way of making honduras horses just a little bit healthier and happier. Don’t forget to donate to support this work, and visit the full article.

40 days and 40 nights.

So, lent starts today and with it comes my sacrifice for lent- my TV! Even though the challenge has gotten me reading much more the lovely screen in my bedroom continues to draw me in, so for the next 40 days and 40 nights the only moving pictures I will be see are you-tube videos to post on this blog and the occasional trip to the cinema. Wish me luck! And don’t forget to donate!

10%

I could write an appropriately themed meme in here but as I can’t actually think of one, just look at the determined baby face! Anyway- quick challenge update, I have gotten 10% through my challenge- 10 books achieved in a month, which I’m pretty happy with! Let’s seen what this next month brings, especially with the start of Lent and my TV ban! Thank you very much to everyone for supporting my initiative, don’t forget to Donate, every little bit goes towards an under-publicized but extremely good cause :).

Another win for WHW!

Another win for world horse welfare as a woman in Kent is issued a 5 year ban for keeping her animals in appalling conditions. One of the ponies was found with only sand in his intestine and three ponies had to be euthenised as there was no hope of saving them. Without your support WHW would not be able to save such animals, so please, Donate!
